minimART is an artist market dedicated for young contemporary artists and collectors. Inspired the mushrooming numbers of art fairs in Singapore, minimART takes the form of art bazaar where artists can rent a space, approximately 1m x 1m (floor space) just for $30!

minimART will be showcasing original fine art works ranging from paintings, mixed media, print making, sculpture, new media, photography, installation, performance and other forms of contemporary practice. Works showcased, installed, for sale and experimented have to be priced under $1,000.

This is an event organised by artists for artists in Singapore! It aims to contribute to the development in local artistic practice, in particular young contemporary artists by encouraging constant production of art among the young artists in Singapore. It also hope to plant the seed of collecting local art among art enthusiats with affordable artworks. (Read more about the objectives of the event below!)

The art market will happen on 2 July 2011 Saturday at the Substation (www.substation.org).

If you are an artist, there are approximately 30 spaces for rent, so do e-mail us minimartsg@gmail.com if you are interested!

If you are interested to contribute to the event, write to us too!

Why minimART?

minimART is an artist market where its primary aim is to offer a platform where artists gather, exchange contacts and sell their works to the public. It is inspired by the mushrooming of art fairs in the city (which are divided into market value of the art showcased).

Singapore hence has become the pivotal point of global art market. Ironically, there is lacking in the local art scene where young and emerging local artists can showcase their works in an art-fair-like situation. Art bazaars and markets commonly in Singapore have turned into flea-markets that focuses on crafts and jewelry, while fine art works are rarely to be seen.

Thus, with mini-mART, the organizer hopes to give a platform of exposure for young contemporary artists in Singapore and collectors to acquire potential local collections. minimART aims to offer:

Artists

1. An affordable platform for young artists to show and sell their works in a bazaar-like environment to motivate them to constantly producing new artwork

2. A networking and socializing channel to meet other artists that could lead to collaboration.

The community

1. Make art appreciation as common as going to the supermarket.

2. Appreciation of artwork by local artists.

3. A way to encourage art collecting culture especially for first time art buyer with affordable artworks

4. An accessible and less intimidating platform compared to visiting a gallery.

5. Opportunities to meet and talk to the artists.

6. Introduce the Substation as an independent art space to the general public to encourage more people participate in programmes organised by the Susbtation.
